From: mobius@Mercury.mcs.com (Rob Repp) Newsgroups: rec.games.deckmaster Subject: SPELLFIRE ERRATA 2 Date: Thu, 15 Sep 1994 14:04:41 -0500 DOES MOGADISHO'S HORDE FORCE THE DISCARD OF ALL HOLDINGS IN THE OPPONENT'S HAND AS WELL AS THOSE ATTACHED TO REALMS? When the designers of this game got together they tried very hard not to set up conditions that would cause the players to play things out of their hands. It's too easy to cheat and say they don't have a thing in their hands when theY actually do. While SPELLFIRE players are unusually honest the designer didn't want to tempt them in any way. In answer to the question, no. IF TWO SURPRISE RAIDS ARE PLAYED ARE THEY CUMULATIVE? Yes. WHEN THE CHAMPIONS ARE BOTH MONSTERS AND THE TREASURE EVENT IS USED WHAT HAPPENS? The treasure event causes both sides to end the battle with no winner. The spells, allies, and other cards are discarded with the monsters. The battle is ended and another battle cannot be started. That attacker's combat options are done. WHEN IS IT GOOD TO HAVE A CARD IN THE HAND AND NOT IN THE POOL? IS THE POOL A SECOND HAND? The pool is used to show champions in play. The cards in the pool don't count in your maximum hand of eight cards. It is always a good idea to keep one champion in your hand in case of emergencies, but when you are reaching your 8 card hand limit always plunk down champions in your pool. HOW DOES THE +5 BONUS OF THE LIGHTNING BOLT WORK? DOES IT WORK AND ALLOW THE SPELL TO DESTROY A MAGIC ITEM TOO? Yes, the spell allows the caster to raise 5 levels and destroy an ally or magic item. WHEN A CHARACTER IS IMMUNE TO SPELLS, CAN THEY STILL CAST SPELLS? Yes. WITH A CARD THAT SAYS, ALL ATTACKERS LOSE 1 LEVEL, DO ALL THE ALLIES LOSE ONE LEVEL AS WELL OR IS IT ONLY CHAMPIONS? All allies and the champion lose one level each. CAN ANY HARMFUL EFFECT BE CHANGED WITH THE CALM CARD, I'M THINKING OF CARAVAN FOR EXAMPLE? Calm doesn't stop the following events from happening: Caravan (319), Silver Hands (277), Fortunate Omens (92), and Calm (400). Generally, a calm isn't supposed to stop events from happening to other people. For example, a player can't say, I'm using a Calm to stop the Caravan event from working because the Caravan user might attack me. WHEN MULTIPLE EVENTS ARE PLAYED, IN WHAT ORDER DO THEY TAKE EFFECT? Except for the Calm event, all of the other events take effect in the order that they are played. Naturally it is impossible to play a Caravan during a battle because it is played between the turns of two players. REMEMBER, WHEN ASKING QUESTIONS, PLEASE GIVE THE CARD NUMBER OR THE PAGE THE RULES ARE ON. ARE THERE ANY AD&D HOLDINGS OR REALMS? At present, 7/7/94, there are plans to create a special AD&D holding and special AD&D realm card to be given away at all conventions. These cards should appear around GEN CON time. CAN THE AD&D CHAMPIONS USE ARTIFACTS FROM OTHER WORLDS OR ACT LIKE A DARK SUN OR GREYHAWK CHAMPION WHEN IT COMES TO PLUSES? At present the AD&D champions are loners and don't get the benefits of the trademark worlds. They don't generically use artifacts from any trademark. WHY IS THERE A TON OF DARK SUN HOLDINGS AND SO FEW DARK SUN REALMS? This question gets asked a lot. During the flurry of designing cards by the four principal designers it was planned to allow any holding card to be used by any realm. This changed, but we didn't cut down on the DARK SUN holdings as we should have. Many of the DARK SUN holding cards will be very gradually phased out of the game as replacement cards are required. IS THERE A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF CARDS THAT CAN BE PLAYED INTO THE POOL? Pools can hold any number of champions and the magic items and artifacts of champions. IF A REALM HAS AN ABILITY LIKE 'ALL ATTACKERS LOSE A LEVEL (#18 ANAUROCH) OR 'ANY DEFENDING HERO GAINS 4 LEVELS (#136 IRONGATE)' DO THESE BONUSES APPLY TO _ALL_ HEROES [I.E. YOURS, HIS, ETC.] OR JUST THE ONES DEFENDING / ATTACKING THAT REALM [I.E. THE IMPLIED VERSION] ?? The abilities of champions, holdings, and realms that seem to affect all players or constantly effect battles even if the player isn't in the battle almost always don't do that. It is the intent of 99% of the cards to only use their special powers when those realms and champions are being attacked. There are cards like the Ruins of Greyhawk that specifically affect all the Greyhawk champions of the card player. IF AN ATTACKER RAZES A REALM AND THEN DRAWS A NEW CARD AS HIS "SPOILS OF VICTORY," AND THAT CARD IS A CHAMPION, IS HE THEN ENTITLED TO MAKE ANOTHER ATTACK AGAINST ANOTHER REALM? No, when a spoils of victory is drawn that person is finished making attacks. The drawn champion could go in the player's pool or hand or is placed back on the top of the deck. DURING A ROUND OF BATTLE, THE ATTACKER USES SHIELD OF WICKEDNESS (#316) MAGIC ITEM TO TAKE ONE ALLY FROM THE DEFENDER TO FIGHT FOR THE ATTACKER. IF THE DEFENDER THEN USES THE SKY SINGERS EVENT (#278) TO DESTROY ALL MAGIC ITEMS IN PLAY, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE ALLY? DOES IT RETURN TO THE ATTACKER, OR STAY WITH THE DEFENDER? If the magic item that steals the ally is destroyed, the ally goes back where they really belong, in the hands of the date that brought them. DURING A ROUND OF BATTLE, THE ATTACKER IS A LEVEL 4 HERO. THE DEFENDER IS AN EVIL 6 WIZARD WHO CASTS FINGER OF DEATH (#397, KILLS ANY ONE CHAMPION OR ALLY OF LEVEL 5 OR LESS). DOES THE ATTACKER GET A CHANCE TO PLAY HIS SHIELD OF DEVASTATION (#315, +2 MAGIC ITEM) ONTO THE HERO TO SAVE HIS COOKIES, OR IS HE ALREADY SNUFFED? When death spells or other events try to instantly kill a foe, the foe must use the level they are at the time of the casting of the spell or playing of the event. They can't augment their levels to try and save their champion's life. THE ATTACKER USES A DESERT WARRIOR (#325, LEVEL 2 HERO, FIRST ALLY EACH ROUND IS CONSIDERED A +4 REGARDLESS OF THE ALLY'S ACTUAL LEVEL) AND PLAYS A +2 ALLY (WHO IS CONSIDERED +4). IF THE DEFENDER USES A SHIELD OF WICKEDNESS TO STEAL THIS ALLY TO HIS SIDE, WHAT LEVEL IS THE ALLY? +2 OR +4? THIS IS A WONDERFUL QUESTION, MY HAT OF TO THE FRAMER. When the ally was stolen the ally lost the ability to be considered a '+4'. A LEVEL 2 HERO IS DEFENDING IRONGATE (#136, ANY DEFENDING HERO GAINS 4 LEVELS). IF A HE ALSO PLAYS A SURPRISE RAID (#101, THE PLAYER'S CHAMPION AND ALLIES ARE DOUBLED IN LEVELS FOR ONE ROUND OF BATTLE), WHAT LEVEL IS THE HERO NOW? (2+4)*2=12 OR (2*2)+4=8 ? Generally, the doubling or math of level additions should always be at the most favorable for the person doing the level changing. The designers of the game want the game to play quick and fast and usually whatever is the most fun to do is the way it was intended to be played. CAN A REALM BE PLAYED IN A ROW BEHIND A ROW CONTAINING A RAZED REALM, OR MUST THE RAZED REALM BE RAISED OR REPLACED FIRST? Realms can be played in a row with other razed realms. The only time a realm must be played in a certain spot is when the "A" realm has been discarded. The next realm played must always fill in the hole made by a discarded "A" realm. IS A RAZED REALM IN PLAY FOR PURPOSES OF THE RULE OF THE COSMOS? A razed and flipped over realm is still in play for purposes of the option rule. NOTE: the designers of the game HIGHLY suggest that all games of SPELLFIRE be played with the rule of the cosmos. ARE ALL DRAGONS MONSTERS? IF SO, WHAT IS THE POINT OF CARDS THAT AFFECT BOTH DRAGONS AND MONSTERS? Often times there are themes that cause the working of a card. There will be DRAGONLANCE cards out that have been accounted for in the wording of cards. The point of a card might be unclear, but the designers are working under a 'grand plan' and know what they're doing. CAN A PLAYER PLAY SPELLS, EVENTS AND ALLIES DURING BATTLE IF HE IS CURRENTLY WINNING THE BATTLE? When a champion has more levels than his foe, all he can play is events until the foe has an even amount of levels or more levels. IF AN EVENT, SPELL OR ALLY CAUSES THE DEATH OF A CHAMPION, IS THE BATTLE OVER IMMEDIATELY, OR COULD ALLIES CONTINUE WITHOUT A CHAMPION? (I DIDN'T WANT TO ASK THIS ONE BUT MY FRIENDS INSISTED) Allies cannot continue without a champion. When a champion is dead the battle is over. THE RULES REFER TO SPELLS BEING PLAYED IN PHASE 5. ARE THERE CURRENTLY ANY SPELLS PLAYABLE IN PHASE 5? Spells aren't played in phase 5, someone made a typo. DO FLYERS HAVE TO FLY? IN OTHER WORDS, IF A REALM COULD BE ATTACKED NORMALLY, DOES PROTECTION FROM FLYERS STILL KEEP FLYERS AWAY? Flyers are a special class of creatures and the game limits what they can do so that if a card stops a flyer, they are stopping the creature and not just the flying effect, yes is the answer to your question. WHY USE A STAFF OF STRIKING WHEN YOU CAN USE A WAND OF CONJURATION? This question could easily turn into a philosophical lecture of many millions of bytes. Instead consider these truths: A) a person might not have a wand while he does have a staff. B) a person might like clerical things and the staff is much more of a themed item than the wand is. C) a true AD&D fan is using all his wands in his wizard deck. NOTE: THE DESIGNERS OF THE GAME HIGHLY SUGGEST THAT ALL GAMES OF SPELLFIRE BE PLAYED WITH THE RULE OF THE COSMOS. WHY IS THAT? The designers of the game wanted everyone to start with a very open ended system and we felt as players became more experienced they would begin loading on the options listed in the rules. These options make the game more fun, but also make experienced players think a lot more as they build their decks. The rule of the cosmos does amazing things to the play of the game and because of these vast changes it was made an optional rule instead of a rule everyone had to play. All four of the designers agreed that this single optional rule makes the already fun game twice as much fun for us to play. >WHAT IS THE POINT OF CARDS THAT AFFECT BOTH DRAGONS AND MONSTERS? Several of these cards were created to work in conjunction with cards coming up in future sets. It might not work now, but it's going to work great in just a few months. I HAVE A QUESTION. MY FRIEND JUST GOT BLACK WATERS A DS HOLDING (SOMETHING LIKE THAT). IT SAYS NO CREATURES OR MONSTERS CAN ATTACK ANY OF HIS REALMS. WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF CREATURE? HE SAYS IT IS ALL CHAMPIONS, I SAY ITS ALL MONSTERS. Got to read the cards carefully, dude! Black Waters (card 246) says "No werecreatures or monsters can attack any realm held by this player." Monsters are defined clearly in the rules (they have the red symbol with the ugly thing with its mouth open in the upper left corner). And werecreatures would be anything that has the word "were" in its description or name. Like...um, like what? I just went through my cards, and I have no werecreatures! I suspect we'll be seeing a lot of them in the Ravenloft expansion, though. For now, I guess you can just ignore that part! The above was a great answer gotten from the system, JMW thanks you. I WAS USING GIB HTISMEN(IMMUNE TO EVENTS), MY FRIEND USED A SURPRISE RAID TO DOUBLE HIS STRENGTH (HE CLAIMS THIS WAS OK SINCE IT WASN'T EFFECTING GIB DIRECTLY) I DON'T THINK HE WAS RIGHT, IS HE? You are correct. Being immune to events means that he is also immune to the extra level increasing an event gives to another. We at TSR realize this is unclear, and we'll work towards fixing these things in the future. WHY ARE THERE TWO GIB'S. GIB EVETS, AND THIS GIB HTIMSEN GUY? It's a secret and if you use a little reverse logic you can figure it out. CARD #1 OF 25 SAYS THE CHARACTER GAINS THREE LEVELS WHEN USING AN ARTIFACT, THIS ISN'T POSSIBLE SINCE ARTIFACTS MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE APPROPRIATE REALM, IS THIS A MISPRINT? Currently this is indeed a mistake. It will be fixed as soon as possible. CARD #11 OF 25 SAYS HE IS RESISTANT TO MAGICAL ITEMS AND SPELLS, DOES THIS INCLUDE DEFENSIVE MAGICAL ITEMS AND SPELLS? Yes, but remember he can use them to raise his own levels. CARD #17 OF 25 DOES STRYCK GET TO CHOOSE AN OPPONENT IF THE DEFENDER CHOOSES NOT TO DEFEND WITH ANYONE AND LETS THEIR REALM BE RAZED? No he does not get to fight if the realm is voluntarily razed. CARD #106 OF 400 DO SPELLS BECOME PERMANENT ALWAYS OR JUST IF THEY SPECIFY THAT THEY ARE PERMANENT UNTIL DISPELLED? They are only permanent if saying they last until dispelled. CARD #198 OF 400 IF THIS CARD IS ATTACHED TO A REALM THAT NO FLYERS CAN ATTACK, DOES THIS MEAN THAT THE REALM IS NOT ATTACKABLE BY ANYONE? Yes, but remember there are lots of ways to destroy that realm or that holding. In the cosmic scheme of things that block shouldn't be a big deal. IT SEEMS TO BE A WASTE TO PLAY CHAMPIONS WITH LOW LEVELS, WHY BOTHER TO PUT THEM IN YOUR DECK? Without trying to be too preaching, what about these reasons::: A) You love DARK SUN and want to put together a totally DARK SUN deck using every card possible. B) You are using the rule of the cosmos and you don't want to use all the big champions like everyone else and so you use many of the small ones. C) You want as many champions as possible and so select a lot of champions with low levels. This also allows you to use more allies to good effect. D) You love the questing option and like to use small champions to do this so that you don't loose much when you fail. WHAT IS AN EFFECTIVE COUNTER TO BATTLING A PLAYER WHO HAS A LOT OF CHAMPIONS IN HIS POOL WHILE YOU ONLY HAVE A FEW? There are several ways to do this: A) You could work on giving your champions lots of magic items and artifacts. B) When you put together spell decks with powerful spells it usually helps to defeat large champion decks. C) When you know people have large champions you need to make decks with powerful combinations of realms, holdings, artifacts, and magic items to mow them down. After playing several thousand games I know that any themed deck can be defeated by putting together a certain opposite style of deck. AGAIN, SOME OF YOU ARE GREAT AT THIS AND SOME AREN'T, IF YOU WANT YOUR QUESTIONS QUICKLY ANSWERED PLEASE GIVE THE CARD NUMBER OR PAGE OF THE RULES. ALSO, PLEASE QUOTE THE PART OF THE CARD YOU ARE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. THANKS JMW. CARD 223 URIK WHICH TYPE OF CHAMPION... A HERO, I PRESUME? When in doubt about which type of champion a realm becomes default to the hero champion. I ATTACK MY OPPONENT, AND WIN. MY CHAMPION GOES INTO MY POOL. I HAVE NO OTHER CHAMPIONS.... WHAT HAPPENS NOW? When you attack and win and have no other champions there are several possibilities: A: if the opponent has more champions the battle is over and you have done nothing more than forcing your opponent to discard one of his champions (not generally a bad thing). B: if you have won the round and destroyed a realm using a champion because it had a number in the realm icon you raze the realm and get a spoils of victory card. C: if the opponent doesn't have more champions but still has a healthy realm your turn is done and you should play an event or rap. WHAT TYPES OF SPOILS OF VICTORY CAN BE PLAYED IMMEDIATELY WHEN DRAWN? A: Any type of champion can be played immediately to a pool. B: Any type of magic item can be played on a champion in a pool. C: Any realm or holding can be put in play on the table. Naturally, the rules on playing a holding still apply. D: A spell (either cleric or wizard) can be played if the spell effects another player's pool or does something like generate a fog or mud to end battles until the player's turn. E: Artifacts can be played if the proper champion is in play. F: Any spoils card can be placed in the hand of up to eight cards. G: Rules cards (something you are going to see in the RAVENLOFT set can be played on the table instantly instead of waiting until the beginning of the turn if they are spoils. CARD 277 SILVER HANDS ALL CHAMPIONS ARE RESTORED TO POOLS, BUT ARE THEIR ITEMS AND ARTIFACTS RESTORED TOO? Anything attached to champions including ugly spells are gone into the discard pile. CARD 2 MENZOBERRANZAN JUST WHAT DOES "ANY TIME" MEAN? :) 'Any time' just like an event being played at any time, means exactly that. Let me give you some examples: A: Menzo can be played at the beginning or end of your turn regardless of how many realms you have already played. B: Menzo can be played while two other players are having a battle. C: Menzo can be played while the other player is placing their realm down. D: Menzo can be played on one of your razed realms seconds after the realm has been razed. ARE CARDS DISCARDED FACE UP OR DOWN? Cards should always be discarded face up and right next to your other pile of face down draw cards. Do not let any other player paw through these cards to see what is there. MIDNIGHT, GODDESS OF MAGIC DESTROYS MAGIC ITEMS, DOES SHE DO THIS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE ROUND ONLY (ALLOWING YOU TO USE ITEMS AGAINST HER BY PLAYING THEM DURING THE BATTLE) OR DOES THIS GRANT HER COMPLETE IMMUNITY TO MAGIC ITEMS? She uses her special power once during a round of battle. This means that you can place other magic items out after she has destroyed one item from the enemy champion in that single round of battle. THE HORDES OF CASTLE GREYHAWK IS A GREYHAWK ALLY (AS OPPOSED TO EVERY OTHER ALLY WHO IS AD&D) DOES THIS EVER MATTER? This is a misprint on the rare card that was fixed in the second edition set, making that card a real good keeper if you know what I mean. THE POTION OF FIREBREATHING IS A "ONESHOT" MAGIC ITEM, CAN IT BE GIVEN TO A CHAMPION IN PHASE 3 THEN NOT DISCARDED UNTIL ITS BONUS IS USED (FOR PURPOSES OF GETTING HAND SIZE DOWN BELOW 8)? This one shot effect can be given to a champion to get a person's hand size down to eight. When it is used it will give its bonus and then be instantly discarded. But it provides no instant bonus for things like being killed because you are below level 4 (you haven't used this potion yet and thus suffer). DOES A CHAMPION BROUGHT IN AS AN ALLY WITH THE HELM OF TELEPORTATION GET TO USE THEIR SPECIAL ABILITIES (SUCH AS MIDNIGHT'S ABILITY TO DESTROY ITEMS OR LOVELY COLLEEN'S ABILITY TO AWE MONSTERS)? Champions brought in to a battle keep their items and immunities but do not give the other champion their special card powers unless they are immunity powers. Midnight could not destroy an item as an ally while Elminster who is immune to offensive spells would help to negate spells. DOES LOVELY COLLEEN CAUSE MONSTERS TO BE DISCARDED OR DOES SHE SIMPLY RETURN THEM TO THEIR POOLS? They are always discarded. TO BE CONSIDERED UNDEAD DOES A CARD HAVE TO STATE IT (AS THE SKELETON ALLY CARD #193 DOES)? SPECIFICALLY THE MONSTER CARD 194, WINGED HORROR, STATES FLYER BUT THE PICTURE IS OF A SKELETAL WINGED BEAST (MAYBE A DRAGON). THE CARD DOESN'T STATE THAT IT IS UNDEAD, BUT IS IT SAFE TO ASSUME THAT IT IS BECAUSE OF THE PICTURE (OR IS THE WINGED HORROR'S FLESH JUST INVISIBLE)? ONE GROUP I PLAYED WITH SAID IT WAS UNDEAD, ANOTHER SAID IF IT DIDN'T STATE IT, THEN IT'S NOT. A card must state it is undead to be considered undead even if the creature in AD&D is defined as undead. DO THE SPECIAL ABILITIES OF THE DARK SUN HOLDINGS URIK AND BALIC APPLY ALL THE TIME OR ONLY WHEN THE REALM IS DEFENDING ON ITS OWN? Generally, special realm and holding abilities only apply when that realm is being attacked. I HEARD A RUMOUR THAT THE TOURNAMENT DECK RULES HAD BEEN UPDATED TO ALLOW NO DUPLICATE CARDS IN A DECK. IS THIS TRUE? Tournament rules have been slightly updated. Plan on always using the Rule of the Cosmos. Plan on not being able to have more than two individual cards of one type appearing in your decks. This means you can have two Drizzts but only one player can have him in play at any one time. DOES SURPRISE RAID ALSO DOUBLE THE LEVEL OF ANY ARTIFACTS/MAGIC ITEMS/ SPELLS ALREADY PLAYED (OR PLAYED AFTER THE RAID)? Yes to those played before the event and no to those played after the event. WHAT IS THE DISTRIBUTION OF COMMONS/UNCOMMONS/RARES IN A STARTER DECK? IN A BOOSTER PACK? Common Cards 1st edition: 178,336 of each and a total of 26,750,400 Uncommon 1st edition: 111,680 of each and a total of 11,168,000 Rare 1st edition: 53,440 of each and a total of 5,344,000 Special booster: 57,024 of each and a total of 1,425,600 Realm 1st edition: 110,080 of each and a total of 5,504,000 Ravenloft 1st edition: Common: 174,960 of each and a total of 8,748,000 Uncommon: 155,200 of each and a total of 3,880,000 Rare: 77,760 of each and a total of 1,944,000 Spellfire 2nd edition double decks: Common: 36,000 of each and a total of 5,400,000 Uncommon: 18,000 of each and a total of 1,800,000 Realms: 36,000 of each and a total of 1,800,000 Rare: 9,000 of each and a total of 900,000 THE NEW RULE REGARDING EVENTS STATES: "ONCE PLAYED, AN EVENT CARD CAN NEVER BE RETURNED TO THE PLAYER'S HAND BY ANY MEANS." DOES THIS MEAN AN EVENT CAN RETURN TO YOUR HAND IF IT WAS DISCARDED WITHOUT BEING PLAYED? (EXAMPLE: IT WAS IN YOUR HAND WHEN A TRANSFORMATION WAS PLAYED) This is a wonderful question and gets the first #1 No Prize Award for Excellent Questioning! Events are out of play after one use. Do not even bother to put them in your discard pile because they cannot be gotten again by any means. The Transformation card instantly makes unused events discarded cards and not events any more so they are not reusable. CAN SILVER HANDS BE PLAYED ON A REALM SUCH AS BALIC OR TYR TO REBUILD A REALM (BECAUSE IT IS CONSIDERED A CHAMPION). Wonderful question, the answer is absolutely not. Although a realm can act like a champion it doesn't go into a player's pool. (smiles from JMW) HALCYON(13 OF 25) ATTACKS A REALM, THE DEFENDER DOES NOT SEND A CHAMPION TO DEFEND AND THE REALM DOES NOT HAVE ANY ABILITY TO DEFEND ITSELF. DOES SHE STILL GET TO RETURN A CARD FROM THE DISCARD PILE? Everytime she wins a battle round she gets a card, so the answer is yes. I ATTACKED WITH A LEVEL 2 MONSTER. BEFORE CHOOSING A DEFENDER, THE OPPONENT PLAYED THE ICE STORM EVENT, KILLING MY MONSTER. CAN I ATTACK AGAIN? DOES ANYONE GET A SPOILS OF VICTORY? CAN I ATTACK AGAIN? (GOOD QUESTIONS, SMILES FROM JMW) If the defender hasn't put out a champion yet, the battle has not started and the attacker can put out a new champion to begin the battle. If the defender had put out a champion then the battle is over. The defender in this last case would have gotten a spoils of victory card. THE CONTROL UNDEAD SPELL(CARD #396) ALLOWS YOU TO ASK A PLAYER FOR HIS LARGEST UNDEAD ALLY CARD, DOES THIS REFER TO THE LARGEST UNDEAD ALLY IN HIS HAND? IN HIS DECK? IN HIS COLLECTION? This undead ally is the visible ally in play with a champion. CAN YOU DISPELL A DISPELL MAGIC? You can't use a dispell magic card to get rid of another dispell magic card. DOES THE CODEX OF THE INFINITE PLANES SPELL IMMUNITY APPLY TO ALLIES? The codex is applied to the champion and from this spells splash off the champion and don't reach the allies. HOW EXACTLY DOES NIBENAY(CARD#226) WORK? (DO YOU HAVE TO RAZE IT TWICE IN THE SAME TURN?, DO YOU GET SPOILS IF YOU RAZE IT OR ONLY WHEN IT IS TURNED OVER?, WHAT IF TITHIAN(CARD#301) ATTACKS IT?). The act of razing this realm once doesn't flip it over or give the attacker a spoils of victory card. After carefully reviewing this card there are several ways to use it: A: attacker "B" attacks once and defender "A" allows Nibenay to be razed (but it's not). Attacker "B" comes at the defender again and the defender puts up a champion and looses. Attacker "B" comes at Nibenay again and is allowed to raze it because this isn't two times in a row. This means the defender can keep alternating a razing with a defender as long as he has defenders. B: attacker "B" kills all of the champions of "A" and razes Nibenay once but is out of attacking champions, his turn ends. In the turn of "C" he attacks Nibenay and razes it. This counts as the 'two in a row', and the realm is really razed and "C" gets the spoils of victory card after only one attack. IF YOU DISINTEGRATE(CARD#393) A REALM WITH MULMASTER(CARD#33) ATTACHED TO IT DOES THE PLAYER WITH MULMASTER STILL GET TO DRAW A CARD? No. WILL THERE EVER BE LEVEL 1, LEVEL 0, OR NEGATIVE LEVEL CHAMPIONS? CHAMPIONS ABOVE 10? WIZARD SPELLS ABOVE +6? GOOD CLERIC SPELLS? There is a RAVENLOFT level one champion (Dr. Mordenheim). In the twenty new cards 408 of 420 there is a LIVING SCROLL MONSTER that's a zero level monster. In the course of expanding the cards for this game I expect there will be a lot of the above things happening a lot. PLEASE DEFINE THE TERM 'ROUND'? IN A MULTI-PLAYER GAME, IF YOU ATTACK PLAYER B AND : A) WIN OR B) LOSE, CAN YOU THEN ATTACK PLAYER C? Generally, when you attack and win your turn is over. The dark sun Rykus card is an exception to this rule. Generally, when you attack and lose your turn is over. Generally, when you attack you pick one realm (from player B) and you have to finish your turn working with that realm of player B and you are not allowed to attack player C. CAN YOU DISPELL A DISPELL MAGIC? You can't use a dispell magic card to get rid of another dispell magic card. IF A REALM IS RAZED, ARE THE SPECIAL ABILITIES OF THE REALM STILL IN EFFECT? No. I HAVE THE SEA BARONS (133) AND THE GREAT KINGDOM (123) IN PLAY, BUT THEY ARE BOTH RAZED. IF I PLAY ARMS OF THE SHIELD LANDS (216) ON MY GREAT KINGDOM TO REBUILD IT, IS THE SEA BARONS REALM REBUILT TOO? Yes, this will rebuild the second realm. YOUR RESPONSE TO TRANSFORMATION CONTRADICTS ITSELF BETWEEN PAGES 7 & 8. WHICH IS CORRECT? ALSO, WHAT ABOUT USING DELSENORA IN THIS CASE (10 OF 25)? Delsenora can stop a transformation from hurting her player. THE NEW RULE REGARDING EVENTS STATES: "ONCE PLAYED, AN EVENT CARD CAN NEVER BE RETURNED TO THE PLAYER'S HAND BY ANY MEANS." DOES THIS MEAN AN EVENT CAN RETURN TO YOUR HAND IF IT WAS DISCARDED WITHOUT BEING PLAYED? (EXAMPLE: IT WAS IN YOUR HAND WHEN A TRANSFORMATION WAS PLAYED) This is a wonderful question and gets the first #1 No Prize Award for Excellent Questioning! Events are out of play after one use. Do not even bother to put them in your discard pile because they cannot be gotten again by any means. The Transformation card instantly makes unused events discarded cards and not events any more so they are not reusable. WHEN THE RING OF SHOOT STARS IS APPLIED TO ANOTHER CHAMPION, WHO IS CONSIDERED ACTUALLY HOLDING THE RING FOR THE PURPOSE OF SPELLS OR SPECIAL ABILITIES WHICH COULD DESTROY THE RING? Generally, the ring would be in the hands of the champion with the shooting star card. If the ring is working from a distance and is not in the hands of the champion attacking or defending then it shouldn't be able to be destroyed by cards that only work in a battle round. CAN #152 BE ATTACHED TO A CHAMPION IN THE PLAYER'S POOL DURING A BATTLE OR MAY IT ONLY BE ATTACHED TO A CHAMPION IN THE PLAYER'S POOL AT STAGE #3? If attaching the codex of the infinite planes gives the attacking or defending champion an edge it can be attached to a pool champion. The same could then be said for a war banner or a ring of shooting stars. YOU HAVE REQUESTED THAT WE QUOTE THE PAGE NUMBER OF THE RULES, BUT THE PAGES WEREN'T NUMBERED, WHAT'S THE DEAL? Sorry about that, please quote the section header and this will get the message across. WHEN YOU USE LOVELY COLLEEN (22 OF 25) TO DEFEND AGAINST THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN (#88RL), AND CHOOSE TO USE THE HORSEMANS OPTION OF AUTOMATICALLY WINNING THE BATTLE, WHO WINS? This has become a tough, question with good reasons for deciding on either end of the question. Everyone here knows its going to cause all sorts of trouble no matter what we decide. For this case and this case only, whomever puts out the champion as an attacker first wins the battle. So, if either one of these is the attacker against the other they get to use their power to win the battle. This isn't a problem when the headless horseman is the defender because he doesn't get his automatic win power then. WHEN YOU PLAY THE RING OF REVERSION (#63RL) AGAINST MIDNIGHT (#46), WHO WINS? Midnight cannot use her powers when the ring is on the other champions hand. THE INTELLECT DEVOURER (#86) SAYS THAT YOU ONLY USE MAGIC ITEMS AND ARTIFACTS TO CALCULATE THE OPPONENTS LEVEL? The card reads, (Immediately destroys an opposing champion of level 5 or less. Count only magical item and artifact bonuses when determining level.) This means that the level on the character plus the additions of magical items and artifacts are used to see of the character is fifth level or less. No other cards can be added (that's why it says immediately) and spells and the like don't count. SOME ARTIFACTS HAVE NO WORLD ON THEM, AS WELL AS SOME OF THE CHAMPIONS. CAN YOU PLAY ANY ARTIFACT ON A CHAMPION WHO IS NOT ATTACHED TO A WORLD? ALSO, CAN YOU PLAY ANY ARTIFACT WITH NO WORLD ON ANY CHAMPION? Currently, without the use of the EGO COIN (#419 of 420) artifacts must be attached to their trademarks unless they say they can be used with any champion. AD&D champions cannot use any artifact from any world, unless the EGO COIN is included in their mix. IF A PLAYER USES THE SOLID FOG EVENT CARD, CAN ANOTHER PLAYER USE A CALM EVENT TO NEGATE THE AFFECTS OF THE FOG AGAINST HIM? CONTINUING WITH THE QUESTION, CAN THE CALMED PLAYER ATTACK AND HAVE A PERSON STILL IN A SOLID FOG DEFEND? A player can use the calm event to attack someone else while under a solid fog event. That player being attacked can defend themselves. IF YOU USE THE ROD OF SHAPE CHANGE (#93), DO YOU GET ALL THE POWERS OF THAT PULLED CHAMPION? FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU PULL IUZ (#167) DO YOU GET TO RAZE A REALM IF HE IS DEFEATED? Yes. IF YOU DESTROY A CHAMPION (NOT DEFEATING HIM IN BATTLE) WHEN USING THE INTELLECT DEVOURER (#86) OR THE ASSASSINS (#252), DOES HE GET TO USE ANY POWERS HE MAY HAVE? FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU USE THE ASSASSIN ON IUZ DOES HE STILL GET TO RAZE A REALM? When a champion is destroyed while in a pool, they cannot use their abilities to effect anyone else.
